  Tree Less, 100% Biodegradable Products

For almost 1800 years, paper was a rare and costly commodity made mostly from linen and cotton rags in handmade papermaking facilities. With the advent of the Industrial Revolution and the invention of the printing press, demand for paper skyrocketed. New papermaking methods and fiber resources were required to keep up with demand. Trees became the largest source of fiber for papermaking only about 150 years ago.

Today, tree-made paper accounts for over 90% of the world's paper production and paper has become a commodity whose very existence is taken for granted.

Every year, more than 900,000,000 million trees are cut down to feed America's paper mills. And, this accounts for only a fraction of the trees used globally for paper production. While most of the trees come from tree farms, old growth forests are still logged for paper, forests that provide habitats for flora and fauna as well as oxygen we breathe.

As long as there is a need for paper, it is likely that trees will continue to be used for fiber. But, consumers now have a choice about whether to use tree-made paper or tree-less paper.

The Sugar Cane Paper Company is stepping up to help reduce the commercialization of our forests. Our tree-free Sugar Cane paper products made from recycled bagasse fiber offer consumers an eco-friendly choice that will help to maintain our forests.

All of our products are not only tree free, they are also recyclable and 100% biodegradable and compostable. Unlike plastic and Styrofoam tableware, our bagasse-made tableware can be composted and will biodegrade back to the soil without leaving any harmful residues and all of this from the residue of an annually renewable resource, sugar cane, which is grown for food.

Microwaving plastic containers could release plasticizers that can be environmental estrogens, called endocrine disruptors. Sugar Cane tableware is microwaveable, without releasing any toxins.
